History
The station opened on 1 January 1890 as part of the extension of the North Shore line to Hornsby. It was originally named ‘Ardagh Road’, being the name of the road (now Johnston Street) to the east of the station. It was renamed ‘Artarmon’ on 1 September 1894.
In 1923, a new island platform and station building were constructed as part of the quadruplication of the North Shore line. The original station building was demolished in 1930.
In January 2015, the station underwent a minor upgrade, including new canopies, signage and customer information displays.
