Darling Harbour History
Originally established in 1788 as part of the Port Jackson colony, Darling Harbour was named after Lieutenant-General Ralph Darling, who was the Governor of New South Wales from 1825 to 1831. The harbour was originally used for shipbuilding, whaling, and grain storage, but it has since been redeveloped into a vibrant precinct that is now home to numerous attractions, including the Sydney Aquarium, the Australian National Maritime Museum, and the Sydney Wildlife World.
