History of the ISKCON Temple in Artarmon

The ISKCON Temple in Artarmon was founded in 1977 by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the founder and acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). Since then, the temple has served as a centre for the local Hindu community and spiritual devotees alike. The place has gone through a number of renovations and upgrades funded by the North Sydney Council as well as the ISKCON Sydney Trust.

The first of these was the construction of a new Deity room and kitchen in 1981, followed by an expansion of the existing gurukulam (primary school) in 1984. In 1986, a new building was constructed to house the ever-growing number of devotees who were coming to the temple. In the following years, more improvements and additions were made, such as the construction of a new prasadam hall, a yajna shall (place for fire sacrifices), and a Govinda’s Restaurant.

The latest renovation was completed in 2019 and included the construction of a new entrance, car park, and landscaping. The Artarmon ISKCON Temple is now one of the largest and most beautiful temples in Australia.
